Barrow

Barrow, ring-barrow

What is recorded here

In wet pasture surrounded by streams. A circular enclosure (overall diam. c. 10m), which appears to have an internal fosse, visible on satellite imagery (Google Earth satellite imagery, 20 January 2020), identified and reported by Jean-Charles Caillère. Its size and morphology suggest that this is a possible ring-barrow. There are a number of other possible ring-barrows (TS059-158----; TS059-179----; TS059-181----; TS059-182----; TS059-183----; TS059-184----; TS059-187----; TS059-188----; TS059-189----; TS059-190----; TS059-191----; TS059-192----; TS059-193----) in the vicinity.
A Neolithic ring-barrow; its circular enclosure and internal fosse suggest a ceremonial or funerary function. Such features are characteristic of early Bronze Age to Neolithic burial and ritual practices in upland landscapes.
