Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

Just off the crest of the NE-facing slope of a W-E spur. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 37.8m NNW-SSE; 34.6m ENE-WSW) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (at E: Wth 5.8m; int H 0.5m; ext. H 1.2m) which is best preserved (Wth 7.4m; int. H 1.6m; ext. H 2.35m) at W separated by a complete fosse (Wth 5-6.7m; ext. D 0.7-1m) from an outer bank (Wth 3.6m; ext. H 0.4m) NW-NE. There are modern entrances with causeways at ESE and NNW, and it is circumscribed by a field wall W-N-ESE, which forms the townland boundary with Barnacullen to the N. Rath (RO045-036----) is c. 95m to the NE and rath (RO045-040----) is c. 180m to the ESE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
