What is recorded here

Indicated is a coastal promontory fort in County Cork where the sea cut a deep cove into the interior, leaving a narrow rectangular spur projecting west into Dunworley Bay. A high bank and deep fosse once crossed the neck, but only a collapsing section of bank and part of the causewayed ditch remain visible today. The ocean continues taking the site, grinding ancient defence into gravel and foam while the narrow spine resists a little longer.

Rectangular area projecting W into Dunworley Bay. Westropp (1914-16, 96) recorded sea had cut 'a deep cove' into N part of interior leaving narrow spur projecting on this side. He noted deep fosse and high bank crossing neck and continuing along the projecting spur. Small section of bank (H 3.15m) now remains on N side but is collapsing into sea; fosse (D 3.4m), causewayed to S; counterscarp bank (H 1m). Gravel quarry on S side just inside fosse.
