What is recorded here

Clarke records a public latrine beside Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin South City, restored with six seats in 1581 and still mentioned in 1608. It is easy to picture crowded cloaks, wet stones and the sharp smell of city life rising through cathedral air. What seems crude was also practical: a shared place where ordinary people relieved themselves before leaving the church grounds.

Clarke mentions the former existence of a public latrine associated with Christchurch Cathedral which was to be restored with 6 seats in 1581 and is also mentioned in 1608 (2002, 28).
