William Smith O'Brien Monument

The William Smith O'Brien Monument is a Portland limestone statue of the Young Irelander, designed by Thomas Farrell and erected in 1870. It stands on a four-tier granite base in the pedestrian median of O'Connell Street Lower, having moved there from D'Olier Street in 1929 to join the street's collection of memorials. O'Brien faces south in mid nineteenth-century attire, his story written in both Gaelic and English on the recessed panel.
