Burial ground in Unknown Townland — Report the wrong picture

Unknown Townland is not a separate place but a label for several Dublin streets where sword-bearing bodies emerged during 18th-century building. They lay inside a deep rectangular trench, waiting for shovels to reveal what Clontarf had buried. The dead kept their weapons because victory required remembering the pain of giving it up.

In the 18th centuryhuman remains accompanied by weapons including swords and spears were discovered during the excavation of foundations for North Great George's Street, Summerhill, Gardiners Row and Mountjoy Square (Ledwich 1763). These were enclosed by a deep trench which was rectangular in form. Ledwich postulated that these burials were associated with the Battle of Clontarf in 1012 A. D. .
