Éamonn Ceannt

Éamonn Ceannt died by firing squad in Kilmainham Gaol on 8 May 1916 after leading the fourth battalion during the Easter Rising. He had spent his life teaching Irish, playing pipes and believing a separate nation could breathe again. His young son Ronan was barely a year old when the guns fired, leaving Áine to raise a child whose father belonged to history rather than home. Ceannt turned personal love into public sacrifice, trusting that a free Ireland would justify the loss.
