Man-made underground passage in Drumnashinnagh

Drumnashinnagh holds a stone-lined depression south of its ringfort, perhaps the collapsed remains of a man-made underground passage. The stones still mark the shape of what disappeared beneath the soil. A person may have dug through solid earth to hide, escape or reach another field, then the ceiling fell and the opening vanished. Walk past the ringfort and imagine the dark tunnel waiting beneath the grass, unchanged since the last hand pulled stone into place.
