What is recorded here
Not idicated is a submerged crannog in County Leitrim, Ireland. It hides beneath Drumlaheen Lough, waiting for water levels to drop or memory to return. The chamber exists because human life shaped it, even when that life has vanished from ordinary sight.
Located in deep water near the centre of the triangular S part (dims. c. 1.2km E-W; c. 900m N-S) of Drumlaheen Lough. This is an overgrown subcircular island (dims 28m NW-SE; 24m NE-SW; H 0.5m) with a well-defined stone edge S-NW. At SE and NW there are remains of a timber palisade in the water.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
