Tomb

Mausoleum

What is recorded here

Tomb is a large mausoleum in County Galway, Ireland, built in 1830 for Lady Harriet St George and Arthur F. St George beside the church. A separate graveyard section to its west remained enclosed for later family burials. The stones still mark a private line of death and memory cutting through the older Christian landscape.
Extending to the N from the E end of the church (GA103-118001-), this large mausoleum was built in 1830 for Lady Harriet St George and her husband Arthur F. St George (for details see www.buildingsofireland Reg. No. 30410340, last accessed 15 December 2016 ). A section of the graveyard (GA103-118003-) to the W of it was also enclosed for the burial of members of the family (Leask 1960 73). Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 15 December 2016
