What is recorded here
Half of the wall is gone, not broken but borrowed. The cliff took the south side into itself and keeps the fort company still. What remains is a shallow bowl of stone at the edge of a wet plateau, small enough to walk across in a breath, old enough to have watched a hundred fields change shape below. The missing wall does not need finding. It is standing inside the cliff, waiting for the rock to remember it is a wall again.
Dimensions 14m N-S and 14m E-W
A D-shaped area abuts, on the S side, the top of a cliff-edge. A modern field boundary now runs along this cliff. The rest of the area is enclosed by a very collapsed stone wall .3m in height. The interior is flat but raised slightly above the surrounding land. The site is located at the SE edge of a plateau of wet pasture overlooking better land below to the S and E.
The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.
