Marianne and I walked the quiet lane at Drim, passing a low stone ringfort hidden beside the road. We called it a fairy fort because local people still use that name, but I saw no fairy and no trick, only a small ancient shelter built by human hands. Marianne touched one smooth stone and laughed at its warmth. The ringfort stands in County Clare, recorded as a cashel, and it belongs to the living landscape rather than a forgotten myth.
