Graveslab in Donaghmore is a graveslab in Donaghmore, County Tipperary, Ireland. The slightly tapered sandstone slab stands upright in concrete within the graveyard, measuring one metre in length, 0.44 metres wide at the top, 0.42 metres wide at the base and 0.12 metres thick. Its upper portion displays an equal-armed cross with a bifid terminal in relief inside a sunken circular area, flanked by plain rectangular panels with bifid tops on either side of the shaft. Stylistic comparison suggests a thirteenth or fourteenth century date for the piece.

Donaghmore church (TS077-027001-) was dedicated to St. Farannan who exiled himself to the Continent and died at Valcoidon, renamed Waser on the Meuse in 982 (Burke 1896, 24; Harbison 1970, 226). In the graveyard (TS077-027004-) there is a slightly tapered sandstone graveslab (L 1m; top Wth 0.44m; base Wth 0.42m; T 0.12m) with chamfered edges which is set upright in concrete. The upper portion of the slab is decorated with an equal-armed cross with bifid terminal, in relief, within a sunken circular area. On either side of the cross shaft there is a plain rectangular panel with bifid top (Maher 1997, 55-6). Based on comparitive sylistic evidence Maher (ibid. 25) suggests a 13th/14th-century date for this graveslab. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
