That is a fort in Derrynagall, County Offaly, named in the 1838-40 OS Field Name Books. It is an enclosure now, perhaps a boundary for cattle or a marker for a family claim. The fort shape suggests something older, a place where people stood together when storms came or strangers passed. Derrynagall keeps it without display, the way small towns keep their dead: plainly, continuously, and without asking to be remembered.
