In the Civil Survey (1654-6) Currenstown townland is described as 'Ballycurreene' and in among the proprietors in 1640 is listed 'Henry Mocler of Ballycurreene gent.' upon whose land 'stands the walls of a house' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 312). It was speculated that this house might be 'Currenstown House' as depicted on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map. However, Currenstown House appears to be of 19th-century date and does not appear to incorporate any earlier features. The house referred to in the Civil Survey is unlocated within the townland.
