Outlined

Well

What is recorded here

Outlined is a vanished well in County Limerick pasture, sitting between a possible moated site and Carheen fort. It appeared on the 1897 map as a circular hollow but has disappeared from modern satellite images, suggesting the land itself may have swallowed the marker. The well likely served nearby people for water, then faded from memory and visibility.
In pasture 175m S of possible moated site (LI057-057----) and 145m N of ‘Carheen fort’ (LI057-055----). Not depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. Annotated ‘Well’ on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map and shown as a circular-shaped hollow. No surface remains visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 or on Google Earth orthoimages. See attached Google Earth orthoimage. Compiled by: Martin Fitzpatrick Date of upload: 5 November 2021
