Arodstown and Kilmore crosses stand together in a little garden beside St Mary's at Moynalvy, having traveled from older churchyard settings. The Kilmore cross is a disc-headed sandstone form with long arms, rope moulding and a bow-shaped perizonium. Its north face carries the five wounds, crown of thorns, ladder, scourge, hammer, nails and pliers in false relief. The scene suggests c. 1575 because it parallels a dated cross-slab at Kilmore. They are not grand monuments, but compact witnesses: churches closed, stones moved, memory carried into a new garden.
Situated in a little garden outside the Roman Catholic church of St Mary's at Moynalvy are the late medieval crosses from Arodstown church (ME043-015----) and Kilmore church (ME043-042----) (Moore 1975, 38-9, 46-7). The cross from Kilmore is described by King (1984, 104-05) as:
Removed from Kilmore c. 1966 where it had been since 1837 (Moore 1975, 38), and re-erected here. Material: Sandstone/fine-grained granite. Dims: H 0.5m; span; 0.43m. T 0.2m. Disc-headed cross with short arms, a lower shaft and upper shaft. Decorated on the N and S sides in false relief, the lower edges are outlined by rope moulding. No inscriptions, and has very long arms. The perizonium is a ‘bow’-shaped raised moulding. N: The five wounds in a circular panel with crown of thorns, ladder, scourge, hammer, three nails and pliers. A date c. 1575 is suggested as the crucifixion parallels one on a dated cross-slab (ME043-042002-) at Kilmore.
