Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Corrspark

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Corrspark is a well-preserved circular rath, 35.5m across, defined by a bank and external fosse, standing 200m E of another ringfort in County Galway. The bank runs from W through N to NE, while a scarp completes the circuit elsewhere, and a modern-looking gap opens at NNW. People may have lived, hidden or marked territory inside this ring before the gap appeared, but the earth still holds the shape of that older boundary.
Some 200m E of a ringfort (GA007-056----). Well-preserved circular rath (D 35.5m) defined by a bank and external fosse. The bank is present from W through N to NE; elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. A gap at NNW appears modern. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
