Children's burial ground in Corraneena

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Corraneena holds a children's burial ground where small limestone blocks still mark rows of tiny graves. The stones lie within an old enclosure, waiting for the identity of each child to return through memory rather than forgetfulness.
In W half of an enclosure (GA086-099----). An unenclosed irregular area (N-S 11m, E-W 6m) within which small set limestone blocks, aligned in E-W running rows, indicate burials oriented N-S. (Topgr. Files, NMI) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
