What is recorded here

Indicated is an oval crannog in Lavey Lough, County Cavan, measured forty metres long and twenty metres wide, floating forty metres from the shoreline. Ancient habitation material appeared on a larger island two hundred and twenty metres east-southeast, suggesting the small island may have served as a kitchen garden, fish trap or seasonal shelter rather than a main home. Vegetation still smothers the site, hiding wooden stakes, hearth marks or broken pots beneath reeds and damp soil. The lough keeps its own counsel, giving up only what it chooses to remember.

Oval-shaped island (dims. c. 40m NNW-SSE; c. 20m ENE-W-SW) in Lavey Lough, c. 40m from the shoreline. Known as an ancient habitation site (local information). Very overgrown with vegetation. Habitation material was found on a large island c. 220m to ESE (CV026-018----).
