Man-made underground passage in Corracharra — Report the wrong picture

Inside the bank of a rath on a Monaghan drumlin, a collapsed passage dropped out of the earth, leaving a sunken trench and a narrow spur that still mark the shape of what vanished. People built it deliberately, perhaps to hide, connect or exclude, but the ceiling fell and the function disappeared. The soil remembers the hole even when the stone no longer shows.

Located towards the top of the NW-facing slope of the spine of a NW-SE drumlin ridge, and inside the bank of rath (MO027-050----) at NW. A sunken area (L 6m; Wth 2.4m; D 0.6m) extends SE from a break in the bank with a spur (L 6.5m; Wth 2m; D 0.5m) extending N from a point close to its SE end. It is probably a collapsed Man-made underground passage, although no stone is present. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 30/01/2018
