End-of-pier circular-plan mass concrete lighthouse, built 1886, with cantilevered concrete walkway having wrought-iron handrail around metal-framed light-room, reglazed c.1970. Square-headed opening with sheet metal door and concrete threshold. Situated on upper level of east pier.

A good example of early concrete, the formwork is evident on the walls. Its simplicity and clarity of form creates a distinctive silhouette. It is part of an interesting group of maritime structures, including the piers, quays, coastguard station, coastguard boat house, lifeguard station and the other lighthouses nearby and is a visual reminder of Wicklow's maritime heritage.
