Children's burial ground in Cornalee

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Children's burial ground in Cornalee is a children's burial ground in Cornalee, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a slight south-facing slope in a low-lying landscape as a rectangular grass-covered platform measuring 11.2 metres north-south and about 8 metres east-west. An earthen bank, 4.5 metres wide and 0.4 metres high externally, defines the north edge, while scarps at the east and south merge into the slope at the west. A 3.8-metre-diameter mound rises 0.8 metres at the west end of the north bank, and a cairn of field stones stands at the east, yet no grave-markers remain despite local knowledge of its purpose.
