What is recorded here

Edward Bransfield, a Cork navigator seized by British press-gangs, became the first human to sight the desolate Antarctic mainland on 30 January 1820. That fleeting break in the mist launched a century of polar exploration, yet his name faded into controversy while others claimed the glory. He remains a ghost in the story, his great discovery buried beneath the fame of later adventurers.
