Cahermone Castle is a four-storey rectangular tower built around 1450 by John Fitzgerald, third son of Maurice, Knight of Kerry. John Fitz-Edmond Fitzgerald renovated it in 1579, the Brodericks held it through the late 1700s, and a later Cahermone House shifted the residence away from the old stone. The tower still stands on a private farm east of Midleton, with the remains of an early 17th century house joined to its north side.
