Declan Kidney was born in Bishopstown, County Cork, on 20 October 1959, the soil that later produced one of rugby’s sharpest coaching minds. He played for UCC and Dolphin RFC before teaching mathematics and accounting at Presentation Brothers College, where he first shaped young rugby players. That classroom discipline carried him through Munster, Ireland, and London Irish, turning raw talent into Grand Slam winners and Heineken Cup champions.
