What is recorded here

Indicated was a small oval island in Lisnakillewbane Lough, recorded on a 1907 map but now hidden beneath a wooded bank where two lakes meet. It may have been a crannog, a place for people to live above the water, or it may have been only a sandbar that tricked the surveyor. Either way, the lake kept the shape long enough for someone to draw it before the land closed over the memory.

Located in Lisnakillewbane Lough, a subrectangular lake (max. dims c. 670m E-W; c. 350m N-S). A oval island (dims c. 25m E-W; c. 10m N-S) is represented on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map at a point where a channel (L c. 250m) connects this lake with the SE part of Bawn Lough to the W. It is now a wooded area attached to the S bank of the channel, which it was impossible to inspect and the feature might be a sandbar.
