What is recorded here

Indicated is a submerged crannog in Lough Bawn, County Monaghan, where a fifteen-metre circular cairn still marks the north end of a natural ridge. Animal bones scattered along the shore suggest people once lived, fed animals and buried what they could afford to lose. The lake has taken the houses, but the ridge and cairn remain like a forgotten address waiting for someone to read it.

Located in the S subrectangular part (max. dims c. 360 - c. 500m E-W; c. 360m N-S) of Lough Bawn close to the S shore. This is a circular overgrown cairn (diam. 15m) at the N end of a natural ridge (dims 23m NW-SE; 16m NE-SW; max. H 2m). No structural features are visible but animal bones were visible on the N shore.
