What is recorded here
Coolroe Beg once held two standing stones on J. Kiely's land, but human hands broke and removed them before memory faded. They vanished completely, leaving no marker, hole or story behind. Forgetting is the final destruction because it removes the place from the world entirely.
One of two stones (9948) recorded by Bowman (1934, 227) on J. Kiely's land; 'These were broken and removed many years ago'. Exact location not known.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
