Man-made underground passage in Coolies

In the SW quadrant of a cashel (KE075-005----) and abutting the internal face of a possible hut site (KE075-005001-) at NE. An oval depression (2.45m N-S; 2.2m E-W; D 0.6m) defined by gently sloping sides and filled with small stones. In the 1930s Capt. D. B. O'Connell recorded that this Man-made underground passage had two chambers, one of which his guide had been in and which, he told O'Connell, had led to the S (SMR file). O'Connell also recorded a 'circular mound about 9ft [2.74m] in diameter' to the W of the Man-made underground passage entrance on top of which was a 'large flag-stone' about '6 inches [15cm] below the present surface' (SMR file).
