Barrow is one of five pond barrows clustered on a high mountain ridge in County Offaly, offering unbroken views in every direction. Local tradition holds the hilltop as the inauguration site of the O’Flanagans of Cinél Arga, suggesting the buried mounds may have marked a ritual landscape rather than ordinary graves. The area still feels like a stage where leadership, memory and ceremony collided beneath open sky.

Located on top of high ground in mountainous area with good views in all directions. One of a group of 5 barrows (OF038-008001/002/003/004-) located in close proximity to each other. According to local tradition these barrows are located on a hilltop which was the inauguration site of the O’Flanagans of Cinél Arga (Feehan 1979, 143). Pond barrow, dating to the Early Bronze Age (c. 2500–1500 BCE). It is part of a rare and significant group of barrows, reflecting early funerary practices and landscape use in upland areas.
