What is recorded here

Faheen is a children's burial ground in Colligan More, County Waterford, Ireland. The first edition of the Ordnance Survey six-inch map marked the site as a small oval enclosure roughly thirty metres east-west and fifteen metres north-south. Power's 1952 account recorded the pasture setting on an east-facing slope and stated that the burial ground was not visible at ground level during that survey.
Marked as a small oval enclosure (dims. c. 30m E-W; c. 15m N-S) and denoted 'Faheen' on the 1st ed. of the OS 6-inch map, it is reputedly the site of a children's burial ground (Power 1952, 121). Situated in pasture on an E-facing slope, it is not visible at ground level. Power, Rev. P. (1952) The placenames of the Decies. (second ed.) Cork University Press. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 27-08-2009
