Grave Yard for Children

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

No wall, no gate, no cross to mark the edge. Only rows of rough stones set into grass, small enough to walk across in a minute, yet heavy with every child the Church refused to name. They laid them south of the old rath, as if the fort could hold what doctrine would not, and the field has kept them ever since.
Immediately to the S of a rath (GA098-079001-). This children's burial ground consists of a subrectangular unenclosed area (L 11.8m; Wth 7.4m) within which numerous set stones indicate graves aligned ESE-WNW. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 29 August 2019
