Kelly's Cave is a sixteen-metre limestone chamber in Cong, County Mayo, where carved benches and a roof skylight suggest centuries of deliberate human occupation. Local tradition claims a fugitive named Kelly sheltered there after the 1798 Rebellion or survived the Penal era as a highwayman, transforming a natural solutional pocket into a stage for desperation and resistance. The cave preserves that tension between geology and memory, inviting visitors to imagine the breath of hermits, rebels, or outcasts still echoing within its rectangular walls.
