Half a mile west of Cloghermore village, a narrow cave mouth opens into a chamber where two dead communities crossed paths. In the eighth century a small local population buried their own there, and a century later six Scandinavian burials were placed beside them. The chamber held scattered bone, cremated animal remains and more than three00 artifacts, but one person was laid out intact, as if the cave had finally learned the shape of a body.
