What is recorded here

Mutton Island is an uninhabited Clare island where abandoned houses and two forts still face the Atlantic, while sheep graze the grass that Thomas Burgh helped fortify around 1702. It may have been mainland until 804, and people may have lived there as late as the 1920s, but no ferry, jetty or roofed building remains to mark them. The sea took the edge of the world and left a small sharp place behind, where forgotten rooms still stand like shepherds without flocks.
Mutton Island is recorded as a island in County Clare. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
