Feenish

Feenish is a 179-acre island in the River Fergus estuary, County Clare, where seven families still lived during the nineteenth century before the place emptied by 1901. It carries a sixth-century story about Saint Senan building a convent and a local Saint Brigid leading it, while castle ruins remain on the northeastern side. The island sits near Inishmacnaghtan, Deer Island and Coney Island, now quiet enough that its old lives arrive only through name, ruin and water memory.
