Fortlands cave is a dark chamber in County Kerry where Neolithic people placed the dead to be remembered. They may have laid bones beside stone markers or left small tokens for ancestors who had gone before. The cave did not ask to be believed; it waited to be entered. What is forgotten elsewhere can still be held when someone remembers the purpose for which the chamber was used.
