Clarke describes a large cistern which provided fresh water to Dublin' s city inhabitants from the City Watercourse (2002, 7, K1). This lay near St Jame's Gate from which a conduit ran E towards Dublin Castle (Clarke, H, Dent , S, Johnson, R2002, 97).
