Church in Court (kenry By.)

The precise location of the medieval church of Kildacolum has not been identified. According to Westropp (1904-5, 386) the site of the medieval church of 'Kildacolum' is 'forgotten in the townland.' Westropp gives the following details about Cullam; 'Kelldacolura, 1201; Kildacolum and Kildimo churches assigned to the Archdeaconry, 1204; Ecc. Kyldacolum, with Kyldyma, 1418. It is identified with Ballicalhane by Reeves, but Petty shows it at Killacolum, or Cullam Castle, on the Maigue, 1657 (D.S. (B), 16 ; and Petty, 70). Site - Forgotten in the townland' (Westropp 1904-5, 386). According to Begley this site is now; 'Now locally forgotten, but the Down survey has a townland called Killacollum, containing about 86 acres in the south-east of the parish of Kildimo, and bordering on the Maigue. The old ruined castle standing on a hill to the south-west of the Ferry bridge is called Collum Castle, which is a part of the original name, and near it must have been the old church' (Begley 1906, 119).
