Inishmuck

Inishmuck, the island of the pigs, still holds a crannog in the shallow lakelands of County Cavan. People may have stacked timber, peat and stone there, using the water as a moat while keeping animals and taking fish. The name suggests a busy domestic place rather than a forgotten one. Its exact rooms, owners and ending remain unrecorded, but the lake still surrounds the kind of choice those households made when the land became uncertain.
