Stone Circle

Thirty metres wide, forty across, twelve stones in a ring at Banagher, County Cavan, five still standing and seven fallen, with a ruined chambered cairn at the centre where a passage tomb may have lain beneath a lost mound. The scale is not decorative; it is the point. A circle this large around a burial chamber suggests ceremonies repeated across generations, not a single event marked in haste. The fallen stones do not weaken the place. They reveal the duration, the patience and the patience of time itself.
