Castle, unclassified in Ballinderry stands on a gentle north-facing slope where Edward White held the castle in 1585 before rebels took it back by 1596. The rectangular structure inside the rath may be the castle itself, though no wall or room remains for a hand to touch. What is left is a shape in the ground, a preserved absence, and a local story that refused to call it anything less than a castle.

The castle of Ballenderry was held by Edward White in 1585 (Freeman 1936, 164), but had been lost by him to rebels by 1596 (Cronin 1980, 117). On a gentle N-facing slope. According to Gannon (1972), the rath (RO035-009001-) was locally regarded a castle and the rectangular structure in the interior was probably it. It is no longer extant. Edward White held Castle Ballinderry in 1585, but lost it to rebels by 1596 during the political and military upheavals of the late 16th century in Ireland. The site is remembered for its association with the turbulent period of English colonial conflict and native resistance in the region.
