What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished crannog in County Monaghan, Ireland, where a ten-metre island once rose inside a hundred-metre lake before the water retreated. The lake has since shrunk to a narrow oval, exposing the kind of quiet danger that comes when memory and mud tangle together. No stone or structure remains visible, but the shape of the place still suggests a life lived above water, with reeds, rope and light moving across the surface.

Depicted as an island (diam. c. 10m) in the small pot lake (diam. c. 100m) on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map, but the lake was probably larger (diam. c. 200m) originally. The lake has now shrunk to a small oval of open water (dims c. 50m NE-SW; c. 25m NW-SE), which is dangerous, but there is no indication of an antiquity.
