Stoup (present location) in Cappagh (gowran By.)

Stoup (present location)

What is recorded here

Half a kilometre of river-bend away from the Sruhnasilloge, a stoup from the medieval church of St Kieran still stands in an adjacent garden. It is the kind of place where water was once lifted for washing, drinking or ritual, and the river beside it kept moving southwest while the stone stayed put. The church may have vanished, but the stoup still marks the spot where people gathered, poured, drank and left behind a shape the land has not forgotten.
Located c. 50m NW of the Sruhnasilloge river which flows southwestward. A stoup from the medieval church of St Kieran (KK029-027001-) is located in an adjacent garden. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 9 March 2022
