Fulacht fia in Capnagower

One of four fulachtaí fia (MA085-009005-, MA085-009006-, MA085-009007-) situated in an oblong peat basin that runs ENE–WSW and is delimited on all sides by low hillocks. The fulacht fia is situated c. 38m SSE of MA085-009006- , on a flat terrace just above the limits of the peaty floor of the basin. A mass of heat-fractured stone has been exposed in four very small peat cuttings, in reality areas recently de-sodded (c. 1991) to see if peat was present. These cuttings (L 1.9m max. × 5m D 0.2m max.) have exposed the burnt stone but offer no real clues as to the extent, depth orientation of the fulacht fia.
