Indicated is a holy well on a north-facing slope in County Monaghan, tied to St Dympna of Tedavnet though her church sits four kilometres away. A cement canopy appeared there in the 1950s, shielding water that never entered formal antiquarian descriptions. People may have kept visiting because distance from the church made the well feel less like doctrine and more like a direct conversation with the saint.

Located on a N-facing slope. A well, which is known locally as St Dympna’s Well or St Davnet’s Well, has a cement canopy that was provided in the 1950a. It is connected with St Dympna of Tedavnet, whose church (MO006-022001-) is c. 4km to the SSE but the well is not recorded in antiquarian descriptions. Date of revised upload: 29 August 2017

St Davnet’s Well is associated with St Dympna of Tedavnet, a 7th-century Irish saint venerated for her healing powers and protection against mental illness. The site reflects a tradition of pilgrimage and water worship linked to her cult, which was later syncretized with St Dympna, a similar saint from medieval Belgium.
