What is recorded here

Cairn is a large stone mound on the boundary between Poulacapple and Faunrooska, standing twenty metres wide and more than two metres high in rough pasture beside the Caher valley. Small upright stones at its eastern edge hint that children may have been buried there, while a cashel and hut site lie less than a hundred metres south. The mound has watched the valley since before the first survey maps marked it, keeping company with older fields and quieter losses.

Situated on the boundary between Poulacapple and Faunrooska townlands, in rough pasture near the N edge of a N-S ridge on the E side of the Caher valley, in a multiperiod field system (CL005-014001-). Hachured on the 1842 and 1916 ed. of the OS 6-inch maps. Listed as an earthwork in the RMP (1996). A large cairn (20m E-W; 19m N-S; H 2.2-2.6m). Some upright stones (max. H 0.5m) to the E suggest the site may have served as a burial ground for children. A cashel (CL005-015002-) and hut site (CL005-015004-) are located c. 90m to the S.
