Carran, meaning the cairn, is a small Burren village where Michael Cusack helped found the Gaelic Athletic Association. It sits among limestone pasture, old church ruins and copper-mining traces, with Saint Columb’s abbey, bed and spring still named in local memory. The village has a pub, hostel, schoolhouse and church, while nearby stone forts, a dolmen and a disappearing lake give its rocky setting a timeless, inhabited feel.

Situated in a rocky area of scrub. Not listed in the SMR (1992) or the RMP (1996). A cairn of loose stones (H 0.8m) set on a roughly circular stony foundation (diam. 3m; max. H 0.5m). A large enclosure (CL005-115010-) lies c. 85m to the SE. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 20 January 2016
