Burnt mound in Farnanes (muskerry East By.)

In an area overgrown with briars and ferns, within a coniferous forest on a SE-facing slope. The remains of an irregular mound (c. 10m E-W; c. 6m N-S; H 0.4m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil was encountered when preparing the ground for tree planting. The location is almost inaccessible due to a dense cover of ferns, briars and bushes. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
